Parkgate Carnival 2017
Parkgate Carnival Celebration Like No Other Raises £9,400
A riot of colour, music, carnival rides, art and craftwork, enthralling performances, lip-smacking food and glorious sunshine made for the perfect Sunday for Northern Lights Children’s Charity as it hosted its 30th Anniversary celebration Carnival.
This carnival didn’t need elaborate floats or feathery headdresses to draw the crowds its atmosphere was electric as a 30 Year Anniversary celebration like no other!
The family focused occasion erupted with all the drama of Batala Mersey. Their colourful costumes, mesmerising drum beats, swaying hip moves, twirling beaters and beaming smiles delighted the crowds and created a sound straight out of Brazil!
The unique rhythmic thunder of the drums vibrated all over Parkgate as a call to the community and from that moment on visitors continued to flow through the gates all day.
Organisers were delighted to welcome close to 5,500 people and as the purpose of the event was to give heartfelt thanks to the community the charity were delighted to reach so many people. It was also thrilled to raise just over £9,400 which will allow them to send even more children to Lapland to meet Father Christmas.
Following an official opening from the Mayor of Neston and the crowing of King Andrew and Queen Neave the Carnival buzzed and hummed with activity all afternoon and into the evening.
The cricket field was transformed with more than 70 stalls including crafts and mouth-watering snacks and dishes, a vintage caravan photo booth, re-enactment history displays, zorbs, rides, soft play, a cake competition, a raffle, police and fire brigade, human table football and not one but two stages where performers regaled audiences simultaneously with dance and a wide variety of choirs and bands.
Here’s some of the lovely feedback we have received
“Where do I start saying thank you for yesterday seems a little understated but anyway thanks to you Alan all the team and especially the unbelievable volunteer crew who were magnificent you wanted to say thank you to the community you managed that a thousand times over best fair I have ever had a stall at the atmosphere and friendliness and co-operation was fantastic can you book me a stall for your 50 years celebration please.”
“I know you will have had lots of these but I just wanted to say a huge congratulations on yesterday!! It was an amazing event. I watched the field at one point in the morning and all I could see was a load of what looked like worker ants running around the field!! I spoke to one stall holder who said they could not believe the organisation and the way they were treated, they go to places most weeks during the summer and have never received treatment and help like they did. The stallholder next to them jumped in and said exactly the same.”

It was a delight to see families, often three generations, taking time out sitting in groups, enjoying the sun and relaxing. Many happy to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy their purchases from stallholders and food vendors. With something for everyone the feedback from the public also delighted the organisers and volunteers. ‘When’s the next one?’ was one of the most frequently asked question. The answer is left hanging as the Carnival Committee rejoice in an overwhelmingly successful day. Thank you to every single person who came and made more magical memories for this wonderful charity and to all the amazing sponsors and volunteers who made the day possible.
