Karen Jones, Chairman of Northern Lights, welcomed guests providing a brief history of the charity which has now provided Lapland holidays for over 500 children with life limiting illnesses and raised nearly £1m. 2017 will end with 30 more children having been taken away; 10 to Disneyland over the last weekend of November and 20 to Lapland, leaving the UK on the 15th December and returning 4 days later.
The generosity of many local businesses had enabled the charity to compile an exciting catalogue of auction items including weekend breaks, sports memorabilia, hampers and much more. The gavel happily came down on record sales as gusts bid enthusiastically. One star item, a Lego sculpture of Maersk Container Ship donated by Maersk raised £1,000 alone!
Simultaneously a silent auction continued across the tables with guests bidding on a complete range of restaurant meals kindly donated by local establishments. The auctions along with a raffle of nearly 50 bottles saw a record amount of funds raised for the charity in excess so £11,000.
Monty Duo, performed brilliant harmonies, acoustic sets and dance floor classics followed by DJ Dave Bladen who kept the music flowing with floor filling tracks bringing a 1am close to an amazing evening.
Many supporters who had helped Northern Lights throughout the year were in attendance including those who completed the Rust2Rome challenge in June, many of the volunteers who assisted at the Parkgate Carnival in July and supporters who have attended many of the fund-raising events throughout the year.
Further congratulations were given to Alan Johnson, Secretary of the charity, who had won the Your Champions Champion of Champion Award a few weeks earlier.
The Northern Lights Children’s Charity give sincere thanks to its amazing supporters who continue to give generously in order to light up the lives of so many wonderful children.
